Mount Elgon National park is named after the main physical feature, Mount Elgon. The park and the mountain lie on Uganda's international border with Kenya.
Mount Elgon rises to a height of 4321 metres above sea level at Wagagai peak and is the 2nd tallest mountain in Uganda after the Rwenzori mountain range.
Mount Elgon is a dormant volcano that is thought to have erupted more than 24 million years ago. The mountain rises high above the surrounding flatlands.
Mount Elgon national park is great for hiking adventures where one can explore the various climatic zones on the mountain and see the wildlife and flora in each section.

Getting to Elgon
Mount Elgon National park is located around 240 kilometres from Uganda's capital city - Kampala. A drive from Kampala to Elgon would take around 3 hours.
