Renowned for its scenic beauty and the spectacular falls from which it gets its name, Murchison Falls National Park has abundant flora and fauna to delight the visitor. From rolling savannah and tall grasslands to thick bush and woodlands, the diversity of this park never ceases to amaze visitors and residents alike.
No visit to Murchison Falls would be complete without a visit to the magnificent falls. They can be viewed from the top where the Nile River narrows from 50 meters to crash through a 7-meter gorge, falling 45 meters to the rocks below.
The three-hour cruise to the base of the falls is also unforgettable. One can experience the majesty of the Nile while
onboard, viewing abundant wildlife along the banks.
While on the game drives, Cape buffalo, Rothschild’s giraffe, Uganda Kob, Jackson’s hartebeest, and waterbuck are commonly seen. You may also spot Oribi, Bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, bush duiker, warthog and bushpig. Large carnivores include lions, leopards, and spotted hyenas.
Chimpanzees and olive baboons head the list of six species of primates found in the park. Crocodiles and hippos will be seen along the banks of the Nile.
Some hornbills, cormorants, saddle-bill storks, Kingfishers, Bee-eaters and the rare shoebill stork can also be seen as you cruise on the Nile.
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls.
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 AM in the morning and you will drive to Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way, you will stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you can track rhinoceroses on foot.
After the rhino walk in Ziwa, you will continue to Murchison Falls NP and arrive in the evening. You then check into your lodge and relax.
Day 2: Murchison NP Game drive & boat cruise
We'll start the day early with breakfast before going to a morning game drive in the park. On this game drive, expect to see many wild animals such as lions, elephants, leopards, giraffes, buffaloes and much more.
You will return to the lodge for lunch and then go for the afternoon boat cruise on the river Nile leading you to the bottom of Murchison Falls. On the cruise, you will see many animals along the river bank including hippos, crocodiles and many more.
Your boat will come close to the bottom of the falls and experience the power of the Nile as the river squeezes through a 7-metre gap in the rock and plummets down 40 metres.
This is the world’s most powerful waterfall and is said to be the greatest thing to ever happen to the Nile. You then drive to your lodge to retreat from the day’s activities.
Day 3: Chimp tracking, Return to Kampala
After your early morning breakfast, we'll go to Kaniyo Pabidi forest for chimpanzee tracking. You will be briefed about the chimpanzee tracking by the park rangers and then you will enter the thick rainforest and search for chimpanzees.
You will get to learn a lot about chimpanzees and the ecosystems in which they live. On meeting the chimps, you will witness their habits and social structures that reveal how closely related chimps are to humans.
You will spend around 1 hour with the chimpanzees before heading out of the forest and starting on your journey back to Kampala. You will be dropped off in either Kampala or Entebbe.
